If
you have decided to set up your own website, you should know
some basic information about registering a
domain.
A domain is an address in the Word
Wide Web. According to Wikipedia, the main purpose of a domain
name is to provide recognizable names to Internet resources.
The domain name or address is
not a physical location. It is a numerical protocol that
allows a website to be located in the World Wide Web
"topology" even if it's moved anytime to a different
geographic location. The most common generic domains suffix
are "dot-com", "dot-net" and "dot-org". However, there are
dozens of suffix to create your own website, depending on your
professional/business needs or targeted geographical area:
.name, .biz, .info, .tv, .travel, .edu, .ws, .us, .eu, .int,
.uk, .mx, .in, cn, .ar, and much more.
When you plan to register your
own domain you should verify the name that you have picked and
chosen is available. Your domain registrar will provide you
this service for free and it would suggest you an alternate
domain name in case that your own selection is not available.
